 That plugin does indeed cover general symbols.

 Also, for the smiley support, I reused the syntax of MoinMoin
 (http://moinmoin.wikiwikiweb.de/HelpOnSmileys), except for the
 flags, as Thomas Waldmann (one of the MoinMoin author), advised
 me to do.
