I'm not sure about "usually," but those are far from the only problems
with the BDB backend. I've seen it wedge under load even with a
correctly-locally-compiled BDB 4.2.

BDB repositories wedge under load. FSFS repositories don't.
If someone wants help with making his repository stop wedging, "switch
to FSFS" is great advice.
